New Liquor Regulations (Press Release)
CAPE TOWN’s new liquor regulations, approved by the City Council last month, were unnecessarily restrictive and would even outlaw champagne breakfasts at any hotel or restaurant in the City.
In terms of the regulations, which come into force some time next year, no establishment will be allowed to serve liquor of any description before 11am and the Cape Chamber of Commerce says this is an unreasonable restriction and will that it will have an adverse effect on the City’s reputation for good hospitality. read more Freedom of Speech and Communication (Press Release)

THE Cape Chamber of Commerce has called for a total rethink on the plans for the MyCity bus service and rejected the City’s claim that MyCity will provide a superior service at a comparable cost.
In the response to the City’s call for comment, Mr Albert Schuitmaker, Director of the Chamber, pointed out that most MyCity passengers would have to stand and that this alone would destroy the claim of a superior service.
The Chamber also challenged many of the assumptions built into the report and warned that underestimates of costs and over estimates of patronage could create severe financial problems for the City. read more City launches new cutting-edge online film location booking system (News Article)

THE Cape Chamber of Commerce has written to the City Council to express its concern at the model chosen by the City to run a new public transport service as well as the costs and potential for major financial losses.
In the letter to Mr Mike Marsden, the City executive director for transport, roads and major projects, Mr Albert Schuitmaker, the Chamber’s Executive Director says the Chamber strongly supports the initiative taken by the City to create and integrated public transport service but it did not agree with the approach.

THE Chamber has noted with interest that the controlled refinery price of Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) has been reduced from R5.49 per kg to R5.42 but the retail price has actually gone up from R15.69 to R16.19
